What is Home Grown?
A Movement | A Moment | A Lifestyle
Home Grown is a celebration of the people and culture that define a city. Whole Heart Productions’ signature Home Grown events celebrate artists that are contributing to the cultural heritage of their communities. Home Grown performances combine dance, music, talks and storytelling to not only transport the audience to new locations but to also celebrate the culture within their own cities.
It started with a vision a calling to create a way to not only recognize the artistic contributions of a city’s native population, but to also create a community of sharing and collaboration within the arts.

built to last

Home Grown: Built to Last highlights Sulé’s scripted testimony involving his journey as a colon cancer survivor. WHP partnered with the Colon Cancer Alliance (to help bring awareness to the cause), three dynamic choreographers; Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, A Dance Company, Francine E. Ott/The Walk, Dr. Darian Parker and the vocal styles of Nicholas Ryan Gant assisted with showcasing the beautiful art of dance and music.

The theme of this project and the nature of the subject matter (colon cancer) allowed artists and the audience to acknowledge their roles relating to the influence and impact of the performing arts. We find both roles are crucial in our current times. Built to Last not only entertained the public, but also offered vital information regarding the recent statistics in colon cancer research and details covering early screening prevention, which can save lives.

Journeys of Euphoria

Home Grown: Journeys of Euphoria was a two-part event that took place on September 19th in New Orleans, LA. It started with the Home Grown Awards luncheon, recognizing the work of Hearts of Love volunteers who dedicate their time to improving the lives of the homeless community in New Orleans. The event also recognized three cultural art pioneers who have contributed to the rich cultural landscape of the city, and included a special guest speaker

That evening, Whole Heart Productions hosted Home Grown: Journeys of Euphoria Dance Production. Each performance featured talented dancers and choreographers from New Orleans. After the six individual performances, audience members had the opportunity to interact with the show’s choreographers during a 30-minute talk back.
